7. Chromatic aberration

All the binoculars featured in this test incorporate low-dispersion glass elements in their objective lenses. Nevertheless, when evaluating chromatic aberration at the center of the field, identifying the clear outsider presented no difficulty. That spot belonged to the Zeiss Conquest HDX. While a sweet spot free of noticeable color fringing could still be found in the absolute center, moving even slightly toward the edges revealed chromatic aberration to a degree unbefitting a binocular in this class.

The remaining three binoculars delivered very strong and comparable performance, though the Sky Rover arguably garnered the most praise. Second place was shared by the Oberwerk and the Swarovski, both delivering similar results.

Regarding edge chromatic aberration, the Banner Cloud once again earned the highest praise. Assigning the subsequent placements proves difficult, as the remaining contenders were closely matched and reviewers' opinions diverged. However, edge chromatic aberration was noticeable in every binocular, reaching at least a moderate level.

Combining the scores for both center and edge chromatic aberration yields a clear winner and loser. First place goes decisively to the Sky Rover Banner Cloud, while the Zeiss Conquest HDX brings up the rear. The battle for second place was tightly fought, but ultimate edge goes to the Oberwerk, leaving third place to the Swarovski SLC.
