6. White balance and contrast

In this category, the competition was once again closely fought, as the performance delivered by all models in the test was exceptionally high. This time, however, establishing a definitive ranking presented no major difficulties.

Below are crop images taken from the exact center of the exit pupils of each binocular, positioned against a white, uniformly illuminated surface. The camera's custom white balance was calibrated directly to this target surface before placing the binocular between it and the camera lens.

Almost all the binoculars exhibited slight yellowish and greenish tints, whereas the Swarovski also introduced subtle orange notes. The most strongly tinted image was observed in the Oberwerk (top-left corner), followed by the Sky Rover (top-right corner). Next came the Swarovski (bottom-left corner) and the Zeiss (bottom-right corner), which performed nearly identically to one another.

Evaluating contrast proved somewhat trickier, as the results reported by various testers were far less consistent. For instance, one reviewer ranked the Oberwerk in first place, while another placed it last. Intriguingly, most evaluators did not rank the Swarovski particularly high, whereas the Zeiss earned praise from almost everyone.

The final verdict in this category puts the Conquest HDX as the clear number one. The SLC and the Banner Cloud share second place in a tie, while the Oberwerk lands in last position.
