Cons: A tawdry bag and a flimsy strap do not do due justice to these otherwise splendid pair of binoculars. That said, the bag and the strap do their job and I suspect that they would wear out any time soon. For the price of these binoculars one would expect a quality leather bag and either a leather or neoprene strap.

Pros: Excellent sharpness all the along way to the edges with no obvious distortion. The ED multicoated glass and the phase coated prisms reproduce the colour brilliantly. The image tends to be more on the warmer side. The magnesium body with a rubberised jacket makes them very durable and provides for a secure grip. The weight is well distributed along the length of the binoculars. The focus knob is smooth and so is the lockable diopter ring. The twist up lens mechanism has stops to hold them in position once adjusted. The included rubber rain cover and lens caps protect the binoculars against those unforeseen forces of nature.

Summary: These are a lovely pair of high-quality Japanese binoculars, competitively priced compared to their German/Austrian rivals. If one can forgive the lack of insight and common sense on the part of Ricoh/Pentax’s sales teams for providing such mediocre accessories, these pair of binoculars would be an excellent lifelong companions.
