One of the least expected results of the 8x42 binoculars endurance test, conducted by our editorial office, was a disastrous performance of two Leica devices from the Ultravid HD and the Geovid HD-M series in the category of waterproofness. Our office has lately received a statement from the Leica company, concerning the material, published on our website - you can find it published below.

Waterproof qualities of Leica Ultravid/Geovid HD series

The Leica Ultravid/Geovid HD series of binoculars are guaranteed to be waterproof up to a depth of 5 meters. Leica tests every single unit during the production process with a vacuum testing device. This test device simulates by a vacuum of 0,5 bar a water pressure of about 5 meters depth of immersion. The test is performed in accordance to the strict DIN/ISO standards for environmental testing's for high performance binoculars. Leica identified in the meantime at the test sample a non-proper fitting O-ring at the nitrogen filling valve of the product. We apologize for this single fault and we guarantee herewith once again that we test 100% of our products with the vacuum tester. Furthermore we invite the allbinos.com test manager to visit any time our factories and to see our test stand.

We sell the Ultravid binocular series since nearly 10 years to demanding users all around the world - without problems regarding waterproofness.
