Suppose pupil’s measurement gives you typical 7mm. At the same time we not afraid of quite high magnification so 10x seems to be optimal for you. According to our recipe a lens of the perfect binoculars supposes to have 70mm. And here we meet with some difficulties. First of all there are not a lot of 10x70 binoculars on the market. Even if we find a good one, for example, Fujinon 10x70 FMT-SX, it turns out that it weighs almost 2kg. The question is, how comfortable is hunting or switching from one star to another with so heavy binos and is it even possible. The conclusion is, that sometimes you should deeply verify our recipe and agree to compromises for some important reasons. In this case decreasing the magnification from 10x to 9x causes the our binoculars will resize its dimensions down to 9x63 parameters.

The human pupil at age of 50 and above usually achieve size of 5 mm. If we choose a standard magnification 8x, then the perfect night vision binoculars (for people in age over the 50) is 8x40! Many famous manufacturers own this kind of binos in their offer but it’s usually considered as a tourist class binoculars or binoculars for daylight observations but never for night hunting or night sky observations. Most elder hunters or astronomy lovers, insisting on popular 8x56 equipment will be able to see as much as using 8x40 binos. In addition they will carry a more heavy and uncomfortable equipment with no optical and light advantages.

Don’t you forget about two more things! Total light running to an eye, to a high degree, depends on lens diameter. In case of binoculars for night using, it’s better to pay attention to dimensions of this lens. The larger it is, the more light it receives. That’s why hunter with max. 5 mm pupil should rather choose 10x50 binoculars than 7x35 or 8x40 and astronomy lover with max 7 mm pupil should better buy 8x56 instead of 7x50. The second issue concerns optical quality of given binoculars. Remember that sometimes smaller, high-class binoculars provide more light to an eye than cheaper equipment only with bigger lens.
