Cons: Whilst the limitation associated with a small field of view was always a given, and something that I have adjusted to, the significantly narrower field of view is such that for normal usage I always reach for my 40 year old Zeise Jena 8 x 32B Also, the poorer colour quality of the Canon means that it is only used when I absolutely have to read a boat name or sail number. At any other time the truer colours and much wider field of view means that I use my Zeise well over 95% of the time.
Pros: The image stabilisation works extraordinarily well, even on the deck of a rolling boat. They are also very light and well balanced in one’s hand, so not tiring when used for long periods. The brightness is excellent and makes them useful for night work.
Summary: The poor colour representation really disappointed me, and was not something that I expected given the 40 year age difference over my Zeise. Will I keep these? Probably not. My intention is to look for something with a 10 x magnification with better colour representation, and a wider field of view. But I will miss the stabilisation for boat work.
